چکیده

Bile from patients with mixed gallstones and controls without gallstones was analysed for relative concentrations of bile salts, phospholipids and cholesterol. A significant difference was found in the concentration of bile salts in normal controls and patients with cholelithiasis. The mean values for total bile salts, phospholipids and cholesterol in patients' bile were Mean + S.E. 84.34 + 15.89; 19.34 ± 0.97 and 18.74 ± 1.38, and in controls the same was 169.67 ± 19.18; 27.42 ± 1.76 and 16.83 ± 2.76 respectively. The Frequency of Bacterial Agents in the Bile Juice of Patients with Bile Stones and Biliary Disorders

Abstract Background and objectives: Bile in healthy people is a sterile fluid and presence of any microorganism can be a marker for a disorder like cholelithiasis. The aim of this study was to determine the frequency of bacterial agents in the bile of patients with bilestone, malignant pancreatic and biliary diseases. Material and Methods: One hundred and two bile samples were obtained, during ...

Molecular Mechanisms for Biliary Phospholipid and Drug Efflux Mediated by ABCB4 and Bile Salts

On the canalicular membranes of hepatocytes, several ABC transporters are responsible for the secretion of bile lipids. Among them, ABCB4, also called MDR3, is essential for the secretion of phospholipids from hepatocytes into bile. The biliary phospholipids are associated with bile salts and cholesterol in mixed micelles, thereby reducing the detergent activity and cytotoxicity of bile salts a...

Pathogenesis of cholesterol and pigment gallstones: an update.

Phase separation of cholesterol crystals from supersaturated bile is still considered the key event in cholesterol gallstone formation. In this review, we will first provide a basal framework of the interactions between the sterol, bile salts and phospholipids in aqueous solutions and then summarize new developments. The hepatocytic apical membrane harbours specific transport proteins for these...

Cholesterol and bile salt studies on the bile of patients with cholesterol gallstones.

Gallbladder bile from patients with cholesterol stones and control patients without cholesterol stones was analysed for the relative concentrations of bile salts, phospholipids, and cholesterol. It was not possible to distinguish stone-forming from control biles when these were plotted on triangular coordinates. There was a significant increase in the dihydroxy: trihydroxy bile salt ratio in th...

Effect of lipid infusion on bile composition and lithogenicity in patients without cholesterol gall stones.

A prospective study was performed to investigate the effect of short term lipid infusion on bile composition and its lithogenicity in humans. Thirty five patients shown to be free of cholesterol gall stones participated in the study. Starting 48 hours before surgery they were infused randomly with a lipid emulsion of either long chain triglycerides (LCT) or a mixture of medium and long chain tr...
